A trip to the beach

Last Friday Melina and I drove over to the beach for the day. It was gorgeous - sunny, calm, warm. Melina played in the sand, I leaned against a driftwood log and relaxed. There were several paragliders flying around and ever once in a while they would land on the beach in front of us. Melina thought it should be her turn to paraglide and she ran after them whenever they landed. I can definitely see her doing it someday.

The next day, we all went skiing up on Mt. Hood (footage below!). It was gorgeous, sunny, and calm again. Only in Oregon! (Though I have to say that today it is freakin' cold).

Potty training update

We are having good success with potty training lately. Today Melina used a public toilet for the first time, while a woman in the next stall rattled away on her cell phone in Vietnamese and another woman did dishes in the bathroom sink. (It was at a mom-and-pop Thai restaurant in an Asian mini mall). I think the key (as with everything) is consistency. It's hard to do potty training when we are constantly going places on the weekend. But since this week is Melina's spring break (not mine), she has been home more and we've been able to do more practicing with the Curious George underwear.

Ski adventures

Melina has been on skis a few times this season and she's doing really well (see video below). She doesn't fall much, and when she does, she usually just gets right back up and keeps on truckin', except when she needs a nap. She really is my little hero. I'm amazed at how she tackles these new challenges with such a (generally) positive attitude. I mean, she just learned to walk not too long ago, and now we're strapping these slippery things to her feet. What a crazy world.
