Preemies

Why is it that everyone I meet lately had their baby *months* earlier than scheduled? We have a friend visiting who had her first baby eight weeks early and her second two about three weeks early. My coworker's wife had her baby nine weeks early. That would be next WEEK, folks! I am just not even ready to contemplate that possibility.

I know a couple of people who have had premature labor, been put on bed rest, etc. I don't know what we would do if I had to take a couple of months off and lie around at home. OTOH, I also know a woman whose sister delivered 5 weeks early -- and her baby was almost 8 pounds. In that case I would be very grateful for an early arrival.

I was born exactly on my due date and I'm hoping to deliver within a week of my baby's. I guess there's nothing to be done but plan the essentials as best you can, and then be open to what comes. Geez, we still have to get wills in place, visit daycares, and obtain some life insurance. Those are the big things yet left undone with less than 3 months to go.
